Finally Leaving LAX

Content: frivolous
Importance: minimal

While it’s true that Spectra and I left Minnesota a week ago we’ll be leaving the United States in a little over the hour. Our flight got stuck in LA and we've been sleeping in the airport for a week. Wait, no, it just felt like that. Wait, no... we spent the last week in Los Angeles with one of Spectra’s ‘girlies’--that would be Molly, for those with the necessary frame of reference--and I didn’t consider the past week travel. Spectra kept asking if I wanted to take pictures or blog and I kept saying, “About what? We’re in LA. Who cares.” So no post cards yet for my East African people.

Don’t get me wrong, the last week was lovely. I got to hang out with Brett (a high school friend of mine whom Spectra described as my most stylish high school friend... take that other high school friends) and Molly was a gracious--if argumentative--host. She even made a kick-ass Thanksgiving feast for us but it was in LA, which is in the United States and a primary tourist destination thus rendering it uninteresting. This is about to change.

We’re sitting outside the gate for our flight on Malaysian Airlines to Tokyo and already the flight attendants little hats have sent my travel spirit a flutter. Spectra and I are in the only white people I can see waiting to get on this flight (I’m sure there are others but I can’t see them) so now the traveling has officially begun.

We will shortly get a bit delirious on the flight thanks to the inability to truly sleep on a plane and an over abundance of movies we probably wouldn’t otherwise watch. The next post should actually be sort of interesting because it will be coming from the floor of my brother’s house in Tokyo.

I’m fluttery heart and knees excited. The next 8 months has officially begun.
